WINDTECH Demo Gliders

Good news for "Girls-fly-Spain"!  Suby will be able to have demo gliders from the Spanish glider company Windtech.  Just let Suby know in advance which glider and in which size you would like to test.

 Communication

In order for our group to easily keep track of one another and to make the retrievals fast and easy please make sure to have the following Apps installed on your Mobile phone.  While flying we will have the Loctome running as a live tracker.  Once landed we will send our location per whatsapp to our whatsapp group.  The person retrieving then just needs to click on the whatsapp link and drive to the location shown:

Loctome               (with loctome family and friends can see where you are)

For pilots with an iphone you are able to use Loctome through "Flyskyhy".  It is not as convenient as for those with an Android phone, but it works.  I tested it already for one week while flying in Alicante with Suby.  Worked very well.

We must also each have a functioning 2 M Radio.

One inexpensive 2 M Radio is the following:

BAOFENG-UV-5R  Recently I have seen it selling at Amazon for Euro 22.70 including delivery.

Answers to some questions that I have already been asked regarding flying at Piedrahita.

I have been asked some questions about what abilities one needs to fly at Piedrahita and whether it is very cold around 4000m.

Thunderstorms are usually not to be expected, but it is always important to know your means of descent. Spirals are not the most important, but rather big ears with speed.

In Piedrahita the nights can be very cold and the days very hot, up to 40 degrees celcius, leading to the fantastic thermal conditions that Piedrahita is known for, but normal windstopper gloves with perhaps silk liners will be just fine.

I would also like to address the apprehension that some pilots, including ones who have never flown at Piedrahita themselves,  have expressed regarding flying here in June/July.  I spoke with Steve Ham,     , who lives in Piedrahita himself and who has had an XC base there for decades, and also he (one of the best meet directors worldwide) thinks that it is absolutely no problem.  I myself have flown at least 8-10 competitions in Piedrahita and can only affirm this. There are certainly far more problematic XC areas in the best thermal time of year, such as the Sierra Nevada, Castejon de Sos, Dolomites, Fiesch, Quixada, etc. ... Piedrahita is not in this group. I expect that "Girls fly Spain" will have a great 9 days filled with many personal highlights.
