THE CONCEPT BEHIND "GIRLS FLY"

We have opened the trip to men as well, but the emphasis is on getting "girls" to go fly some of the best sites for paragliding in the world, therefore the name "Girls Fly Colombia", or as in our last trip to Piedrahita "Girls Fly Spain".  Come join us; "girls" and "guys"!

COMING HOME TO ROLDANILLO AFTER YOUR FLIGHT

Our plan is to not rent a vehicle and driver for retrieves since the public bus system in Valle del Cauca, Colombia is very good.  If the participants of the group would prefer a separate retrieve system with a driver and jeep we will organize this.  This will increase the cost of the trip.  A Sprinter with internet is approximately 150 Euros per day.

I asked Suby to describe to me how using the public bus system in Colombia will work for us.  The following is what Suby told me:

Each participant will be supplied with, and will carry with them, detailed maps of the the Valle del Cauca area.

Before the first day of flying we will have a "briefing" regarding returning home to Roldanillo with the public bus.

Most of the fields that you would choose to land in are next to the road. You land in one of these fields, you pack, go to the road, and wait for the next bus. Buses drive down the main road in a tact of approximately 1 every 10 minutes.  A "long" wait might be 20 minutes. If one bus passes without stopping, then the next will stop. To ask the bus to stop you put your hand up.

What you must know is which direction you must take to return to Roldanillo.  If you do not know this you can show the bus driver your map and ask of the correct direction back to Roldanillo.

The bus system in the Valle del Cauca in Colombia is very good.  It is not like in other countries where the buses just travel from one city to the next and do not pick up people along the way. Colombia has a different system.

The following information regarding returning with the public bus to Roldanillo after flying is from Cloudbase Colombia's site:

http://www.cloudbasecolombia.com/english/information/transport/

Roldanillo is a paradise for pilots also because of the uncomplicated transportation.

De Occidente

The buses of "De Occidente" take you home after your flight.

As soon as you reach a main street you can wait for these buses. You don't have to wait at a bus stop. The buses pick you up anywhere along the road, just hold out your hand. Direkt buses do not stop. The next bus will take you. If you have to change buses, the driver will help you. Most buses have WLAN, so that you can already upload your flight or chat with your friends for free.

FLIGHTS TO COLOMBIA

Each participant must book their own flight.  Currently Avianca has very reasonable offers, so please book immediately.

Please book to Pereira, CO so that we can more easily arrange transport. Cali is the other airport in the area.

Our hostel will be Cloud Base Colombia in Roldanillo

Each morning we will start our day with breakfast at Cloud Base Colombia.

Cloud Base Colombia has Wifi; a good convenience!

WHERE WE PLAN TO FLY

We will fly primarly at Roldanillo using the public bus up to Aguapanela. Other takeoffs we may use are Pico Los Tanques or perhaps Suby's private takeoff near to Obando.

When we go to other areas to fly we will work with the clubs, flying with the local pilots.  For example in La Union (Club La Union), and La Buitrera near to Cali.  In Cali Daniel Vallejo runs a flying school.

As an alternative we can also go to Ansermanuevo to fly.  Here we will use the Paragliding Taxis to take us to takeoff.

GROUP SIZE

We will keep our group small so that we can all get to know one another well.  A group of 6-8.

REPAIRS

If anyone should need repairs made on their harness, Crespo is the local specialist.

TELEPHONE

We will organize SIM cards for the cellular phones to use in Colombia. The price is not included.

ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES

For non flyable days there are good alternatives in the area such as:

- on the Aguapanela takeoff one can ground handle and there is a small restaurant

- kiting at Lago Calima

- the museum dedicated to the artist Rayo

- hiking

- visiting villages and towns in the area
